New High School Bat Requirements

By YBA Staff 12/16/2021, 3:00pm CST

See the press letter send out from the SDHSBS Association regarding the new regulations on baseball bats for the spring 2022 season.

After presentation and discussion among the members present at the Annual Meeting, a request was made from the floor for a re-vote on the first question regarding each members preference in bats and the third question regarding sanctioning of high school baseball. Although our survey monkey is a survey among the members and not an official vote, the board discussed the matter at the board meeting following the meeting.

At the board meeting following the annual meeting, a motion was made to change the official bat for the high school season to BBCOR. The board voted on the proposal and ended up with a 4-4 split decision. A second motion was made to allow a second survey of the members regarding the question of the official bat for high school baseball. The motion passed 8-0 to allow a second survey.

The question regarding high school baseball being sanctioned was also discussed by the board. After discussion, no action will be taken. The purposes of the question were purely to be a poll of the members and to allow discussion at the meeting. A presentation was made by to inform the membership on the state of baseball in South Dakota, as well as, conversations that have occurred over the past few years regarding the topic. This item was purely to inform and discuss. If you were not present at the meeting, but would like more information, you are welcome to reach out to me directly or discuss with members that were present.

The primary contact from each member team will receive another survey monkey email at 8am central tomorrow, Monday 12/6, to allow another vote regarding bats. The board will hold a special executive session to review the results and discuss if any further action will be taken later this upcoming week. The survey will be open from 8am to 8pm on Monday to allow each of our 62 members an opportunity to vote.
